    If an apology that precedes could mitigate an offense, I should be inclined to convert the preface into publishing this book. and hope progress, in logically has lain during the last three generations chiefly directions, either analyzing more closely the processes exhibited in sciences or determining what knowledge is and the relation of knowing mind to what it knows. Though have compelled degree with the first these questions, well aware that demands scientific not possess; second has not systematically to discuss. The following book is modest. There body what might be called traditional doctrine Logic, which not only fact used itself instrument intellectual discipline, but ought some degree mastered those would proceed the higher and abstruse problems. the doctrine that Benjamin Jowett has that Logic is neither a science nor but dodge. I could perhaps describe the motive for which this work was begun, as a desire to expound the traditional Logic way that did deserve this accusation. The accusation was doubtless provoked by an attempt to force into a limited number of forms of processes thought, many of which with violence made may add, least characteristic of 'Inductive Logic' as of any other.
