Poverty and Un-British Rule in India

₹1,500.00Price

Poverty and Un-British Rule in India is the landmark economic critique by Dadabhai Naoroji, one of the earliest and most rigorous analyses of the economic consequences of British colonial rule in India. First published in 1901, the book systematically documents the drain of wealth from India to Britain, demonstrating through statistical evidence how colonial policies impoverished the Indian populace. Naoroji's "drain theory" became foundational to the Indian nationalist movement and remains a seminal text in colonial economic history.

    DADABHAI NAOROJI (1825-1917)

Dadabhai Naoroji, known as the "Grand Old Man of India," was a Parsi intellectual, educator, and statesman who became the first Indian to be elected to the British House of Commons (1892). A founding figure of the Indian National Congress, he devoted his life to documenting and combating the economic exploitation of India under British rule. His "drain theory" — the systematic outflow of Indian wealth to Britain — was a cornerstone argument of the early Indian nationalist movement. Beyond Poverty and Un-British Rule in India, he authored numerous papers and speeches calling for self-government and economic justice for the Indian people.
