निरुक्तम् निघण्टुभाष्यम्: Niruktam
निरुक्तम् निघण्टुभाष्यम्: Niruktam is one of the six Vedangas — the auxiliary disciplines attached to the Vedas — dealing with the etymology and interpretation of Vedic words. Composed by the ancient grammarian Yaska (c. 5th-4th century BCE), the Nirukta is the earliest surviving work of linguistic and etymological analysis in the Sanskrit tradition. It explains difficult and obscure Vedic terms through derivation, contextual interpretation, and semantic analysis, making it an indispensable guide for understanding Vedic literature. This edition presents the text with the Nighantu, the glossary of Vedic words that the Nirukta comments upon.
